Return of The IPL 2020 – On 17th May, the Modi government announced a new set of guidelines for the 4th lockdown (3rd extension) which could bring some cheer to cricket fans as it didn’t completely rule out the Indian Premier League.
“All cinema halls, shopping malls, gymnasiums, swimming pools, entertainment parks, theatres, bars and auditoriums, assembly halls and similar places. Sports complexes and stadia will be permitted to open; however, spectators will not be allowed.”
MHA NOTICE
Reading inbetween the lines it does leave the room open for the Indian Premier League to be conducted behind closed doors.
Fans are hoping that amid the doom and gloom the IPL would return and be played atleast under closed doors while providing live coverage through TV and the internet.
The Bundesliga – German premier league – kicked off this weekend after undergoing stringent compliance norms and days of preparing to meet these new regulations. It is a totally new scenario, post Covid-19 world sports will have many new norms to be complied with and let us wait and see how long it takes for the IPL to follow suit.
